ASAC's Goals
ASAC - About ASAC
  • To educate families regarding choices in childbirth
  • To promote natural childbirth with minimal intervention
  • To encourage and support breastfeeding
  • To encourage communication and cooperation between parents, midwives, childbirth educators and other health care professionals and institutions
  • To support planned, midwife-attended home births
  • To support free-standing, community-based birthing centres
  • To encourage families to take an active role and assume responsibility for decisions regarding their care
  • To assist families to achieve the birth experience they desire in the setting of their choice (hospital, home or birthing centre)
  • To promote midwifery as a viable option to meet families' needs for quality maternity care in all settings
  • To be a resource for parents-to-be seeking information about pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and related topics
  • To promote and monitor implementation of midwifery into the current health care system
  • To compile information on individual midwives', physicians', and hospitals' practices and intervention rates
  • To increase our public visibility
